Anthropogenic air pollution is increasing in the earth.
And highest portion of the anthropogenic air emission is caused by
energy consumption. The biggest section of the energy consumption
in the transport sector is originated from the road transportation.
Therefore, the road transportation is highly emitting direct and
indirect GHGs caused by gasoline, diesel and LPG consumption on
the roads. This sector is needed to be examined in detail for climate
change studies. The uncertainties in road transportation emission
calculations are very high, because the other sources emissions,
meteorological conditions, vehicle using behaviour and age of
vehicles have some pressures on the emissions.
Direct greenhouse gases, including CO2, N2O and CH4, emitted by
the road vehicles are the key sectors for Turkey. In long-term
struggle with climate change, Turkey should reduce emissions from
this sector. Therefore, the studies related to the emission control on
road transportation are supporting climate change mitigation.
In this study, the direct GHGs emissions from the road vehicles in
Karabük province have been calculated and the effect on the climate
change is considered. The IPCC methodology was used for
calculating the emissions. The vehicles were classified in different
categories and the CO2, N2O and CH4 emissions were calculated as
time series for each category. The road vehicle statistics of Karabük
province were obtained from TURKSTAT and the total fuel
consumption was estimated due to the average km covered by
vehicles and total consumption of fuels taken from the energy
balance tables.
The final results are showing that the diesel consumption on the road
is increasing CO2 equivalent (CO2 equ.) emission until the 0.22
million tonnes in 2014. It is just 0.5% of total Turkey’s road
emission. Moreover, the gasoline consumption in the city is
remaining constant although the number of automobile is
increasing in the city. The main reason is the people living in the city
prefer diesel or LPG automobiles. Consequently, the emission
related to the diesel vehicle is highest and it is concluded that 75%
of total CO2 equ. emission from road vehicles in Karabük province
is coming from the diesel vehicle. The GHGs emissions caused by
automobiles, van and caterpillar are causing highest pollution in
Karabük province. The CO2 equ. emissions from these three type
vehicles are 83% of total city’s road emissions.

Abstract: Higher energy demand has been met with higher fuel consumption as the people well-being is increasing and it is resulted in considerable air pollution problems. Fuel consumption is responsible for 90% of air pollution in Europe. Air pollution problem is not only considered today’s’ problem but also that of Europe’s future. Climate is changing and will continue to change as the human beings are emitting greenhouse gases (GHGs) by many anthropogenic sources. GHGs are affecting earth atmosphere and have broken many chains related to the nature life.
In this study, the main aim is to determine the direct GHGs emissions from Europe energy consumption and to consider the EU and NonEU European countries behaviour towards to the Climate Change Problem by observing their emission trends. In this study, Albania, Armenia, Gibraltar, Kosovo, Macedonia and Vatican City State are not considered due to data availability. Related to this country’s population, the GHGs emissions of these countries are not exceeding 2% of European GHGs emission. Therefore, the effect of these parties’ emission is negligible.
According to the results of 2015, the Europe CO2 equivalent emission reached. 5.9 billion tones CO2 equ. emission in 26 years compared to 8.3 billion tones CO2 equ. emission in 1990 with a -28.8% decrement. The Europe average annual energy consumption is 85 million TJ, and 90% of this energy is supplied by burning of crude oil, coal and natural gas. Therefore, the GHGs emission from fuel combustion is high with a value of 92% compared with other sources including industrial processes, fugitive and other sources. Moreover, non-EU countries are contributing only 25% of total emission of Europe. The highest GHGs emission is emitted by Russia, Germany, Italy, UK and Turkey. The Turkey’s portion is only 4.9% in 2015. The future GHGs emission estimation is also giving different results. The models evaluation has also shown that, although the statistical results are very close to each other, the polynomial model has ended with an increment in 2100. However, the logarithmic and linear trend analysis has resulted in decrease.

Abstract: The air pollutants, mainly emitted from industries, households and transport sectors, are tested by scatter plotting, nonparametric rank correlation analyses and linear trend analyses. This technique is an easy way to see final conclusion and can be applied to the any type of series to comment on the series relationship. Each pollutant versus others in a matrix form is studied separately and relationship is also tested by statistical analyses. In Karabük province, there are three air pollutants measuring stations. The data between 1st of January 2016 to 14th April of 2018 are gathered from air pollutants monitoring networks of Ministry of Environment and Urbanization (MEU) and then statistical tests are applied for finding the relationships. However, the data series have some missing gaps and these gaps were not considered during analyses. The main relationships between pollutants are also supported by correlation test.
According to the study, in 2016, the R2 values are not show high relationship between the pollutants except for PM10 and CO. It was the main conclusion of inefficient burning of fuels. The relationship between these two pollutants is strong and emitted by the same type of source due to scatter plotting of measured values and rank scatters plotting. They are increasing and decreasing during the same time interval. In the same year, however, the correlations between all pollutants are statistically resulted in a relationship. In 2017, the results are a little different and PM10 is not having a relationship with other pollutants. The scatter diagrams and nonparametric rank correlation is showing that there is some relationship but not strong. The PM10 concentration is affected by some outer parameters. In 2018, there is no relationship between any pollutants. Only 95 days data were analyzed, and commenting due to these series was not showing any relationship. However, the correlation analyses give only a relationship between SO2 and CO.

The energy demand is responsible about 80% of air
pollution in Turkey. This ratio is very close to the many
countries. And according to the authorities, the increasing will
not stop since the economical development is lasting on.
The economy is always showing parallel behavior with energy
consumption. Energy is needed for heating, processing,
producing, transporting, constructing and many operations.
Therefore, the energy effects on climate change are unavoidable.
In the country base consideration of climate change problem,
energy is the main GHGs sources that affect the atmosphere and
environment.
Turkey has started to work on Climate Change problems after
the ratification of United Nations Framework Convention on
Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2004 and the ratification of Kyoto
Protocol (KP) in 2009. The effect of climate change in Turkey is
an important subject since being Annex I country to the protocol.
Although Turkey has not any obligation for the protocol, it has to
deal with emission sources and try to decrease their emission
levels not only for international purposes but also for national
purposes.
In this study, the main aim is to consider the GHGs emission
trend of Turkey’s and determine its behaviour towards to the
Climate Change Problem. The atmospheric GHGs emission is
increasing in Turkey. In 2020, the CO2 emission will reach 545
million tonnes. The CH4 and N2O values will be approximately
6.5 and 7.8 million tonnes CO2 equivalent values. Therefore, the
future emission will increase approximately 417% compared to
the 1990’s level.
