In this study, an electric arc furnace slag (EAFS) sample from Turkey was assessed as a potential oxygen carrier for CLC process. Satisfying fuel gas yield values were obtained and the oxygen carrier exhibited adequate stability during 50 cycle CLC tests performed at 800 oC fluidized bed conditions. An increase on performance of the carrier which is referred as "activation" on literature was also observed. It is concluded that, provided that the iron content can be enriched, utilization of EAFS as oxygen carrier is both environmentally benign and favourable in terms of CLC technology.
