2018 A numerical study on combustion of diesel/gasoline dual fuels on a multijet diesel engine

An numerical simulation has been performed to explore diesel gasoline dual fuel combustion characteristics and emission formations in a multijet DI-diesel engine. The in-cylinder pressure, heat release rate, temperature and formation of emissions were simulated at different diesel/gasoline blend ratio. In this study, AVL_FIRE software was used to solve the whole combustion process and to estimate the emissions. An improved version of the ECFM-3Z combustion model has been applied and coupled with advanced Zeldovich and Kinetic models for NO and soot formation, respectively. The results showed that the incylinder pressures did not show a significant change and the heat release increased. In addition, soot emissions decreased as dramatically. These results are significant to affect the combustion process and change it completely to the next generation of emissions.
