2019 DETERMINATION OF WORKING PARAMETERS OF 3D PRINTERS ON VARIOUS OPERATION MODES WITH DIFFERENT SENSING SYSTEMS

The importance of print quality has increased and the expectations of the printer users regarding the sensitivity and print quality have also increased with the development of 3D printing technologies. In Additive Manufacturing Technologies, environmental factors such as temperature and internal flow, and structural factors such as vibration response are among the fundamental parameters that causes physical and thermal effects on printing hardware. In this study an experimental setup has been implemented to figure out the physical response characteristics such as vibration and temperature variation according to various operating modes. In a conventional 3D printer, the relationship of the vibration between temperature changes was examined during the printing of each layer. By tuning of infill density and infill structure parameters in process settings, it was observed that these parameters influence vibration and thermal characteristics of printing hardware meaningfully. The obtained vibration responses were examined in terms of average value and maximum amplitude magnitudes. Furthermore, the heat generation on critical printer components were investigated both by thermal imaging device and laser thermometer. The components where the thermal load is most exposed were identified as x- and y- axis stepper motors. Finally, optimum operating parameters were determined which create the lowest dynamic stress in the printing system.

2019 UTILIZATION OF 3D PRINTING TECHNOLOGIES IN MARINE APPLICATIONS

Additive manufacturing (AM), also known as a 3D printer, is a transformative manufacturing technology that plays an important role in the precision manufacturing industry. The use of 3D printers is rapidly increasing in the manufacture of important parts used in industry. AM is versatile, flexible, customizable and it can suite most sectors of industrial production. The materials used in the production of these parts produced using 3D printers can be of various types. AM technologies have found an industry in which they can bring great innovations for development. As in other fields, the maritime sector is increasing the use of 3D printing technologies and renewing itself according to different needs. This study presents the marine applications of 3D printers which has a wide range of working field. In addition, the latest technologies, projects and applications of 3D printer technology in the maritime industry is examined.
