Ultraviolet (UV) stabilizers are the most widely used additives in plastics to enhance the lifetime of polymeric
materials. Polymer photo-degradation occurs when non-visible UV radiation made up of short wave lengths breaks
down the polymer chains in plastics [1]. This process results in the deterioration of physical properties such as
loss of impact strength, changes in colour, cracking, loss of elongation and tensile strength or chalking of the
surface [2]. This work is aimed to the study of the importance of the UV stabilizers on the Ethylene-propylene-
diene monomer (EPDM) rubber products such as automotive sealing profiles. Results obtained from scanning
electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry
showed that, UV Stabilizers could be used for EPDM products [3].
