Tunnel fires have rather complicated flow characteristics because the smoke flow inside the tunnel is affected by so many parameters dictated by tunnel geometry, ventilation conditions, fire size etc. Therefore, efficient control of smoke propagation is one of the most important concerns researchers and experts dealt with designing tunnel ventilation systems. In this study, fire induced smoke flow behaviour in a tunnel was investigated. Critical ventilation velocity to keep the hazardous effects of the smoke flow under control and also the most compatible longitudinal ventilation system, for the given conditions, was tried to determine in terms of fire safety.
