AbstractIn the scope of the study, which is a qualitative research, two Turkish children's magazines, “Türk Yavrusu” and “Çocuk Yurdu”, which were written in Ottoman Turkish, were analyzed and the contents analysis of the texts in the magazines were carried out. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the idea that children's publications are shaped towards the expectations of the public is true. The issues of 1., 4. and 7. of the “Çocuk Yurdu” magazine which is published every Thursday in Istanbul in 1913, with 7 issues in total, was reached from the collection of Hakkı Tarık Us (coll. no. 1065) at Beyazıt State Library. As the first children’s magazine used the word “Türk” in its title, the “Türk Yavrusu” magazine started its publication life in 1913 and only 2 issues of it reached from the collection of Hakkı Tarık Us (coll. no. 0912) at Beyazıt State Library. The common point of these two magazines is their being published during the war years, which had been a difficult period for the Ottoman Empire. The articles in the two journals, which appear to have shaped their contents of the publication based on the public expectations, are the data of the research. In the scope of this study, the first 5 copies of the two magazines were transcribed from the Ottoman alphabet to the Latin alphabet, the transcript was transferred to today’s Turkish, and finally the findings of the research by content analysis were obtained. As a result; it was observed that the texts in both journals published in the war years were selected in accordance with the structure and expectations of the society in terms of topics and it was determined that the subjects reflected war psychology by being shaped within the frame of the subjects such as “unity, integrity, patriotism, nationalism and national defense”
