TRADITIONAL FOUNDATIONS OF HORSE RIDING OF TURKISH WOMEN AND “DEĞNEĞE ÇIKMA” GAME
AbstractDespite the fact that women in Turkey have the same legal rights with the men, they are still behind of the men in some areas. The reason for this is the conventional prejudices about the jobs which women can succeed. One of the jobs about which there is prejudice is jockey. Zülfiye Bulut, the first woman jockey of Turkey who took her license in 1989 says women are exposed to psychological violence by men in this job, they are not trusted even they take the first place in the races and the working conditions which are presented to the men are not provided to the women. However, when we look at our history, our epics and our culture, the Turkish woman has been respected in the society, she has put on swords, fought with her man, and had a horse. We wanted to remind the success of our women in equestrianism while showing the traces of this tradition by the “Değneğe Çıkma” game which we have collected from Eskipazar region. Thus, we tried to create a social impact against gender discrimination.
