İbrahim Hakkı İMAMOĞLU

Abstract

Hicri 3 rd century is a breaking point in Islamic science and cultural history. In defining this century, in the history of science the period of science and classification , in the history of politics of the period of Abbasids , Darul-Hikmet and Beytul- Hikmet in the history of science-culture is opened, it is possible to say. In the ancient Greek pagan temples located in the Harran region in the northern part of the Arab geography; philosophy, ditch, algebra, etc. Parchments were taken and translated. Not only was it not enough for Harran, but the artifacts in other places were moved to Baghdad. The translations of these works were carried out in a conscious and systematic manner as a state policy. The translation activities triggered two fault lines. 1. The methodology problems in Works of Ulumudiniyye. 2. It is the emergence of defense reflex -it means Salafiyye- The Islamic mind has been successful in this encounter. Islam's second encounter is with modernity. The encounter of modernity began with the losses of the Ottomans in the land. This process has begun in the military field and the state institutions have continued in the form of rehabilitation and social engineering. It is possible to say that two main fault lines have emerged in this encounter. How to understand the Qur'an? Based on the question, the methodology problem and the protectionist reflex emerged. The name of this protective reflex is its Salafiyya. When we look at the two terms from a general point of view, it is not very different from each other.
