Abstract

Biodiesel fuels are known as alternative renewable fuels for diesel engines. They are generally blended with diesel fuel in different ratios and biodiesel/diesel blends are used in diesel engines. Although there are different advantages of biodiesel fuels, the biodiesel usage generally causes increasing of NOx emissions and break specific fuel consumption even if the low blending ratios of the biodiesel. In this study, retarded injection timing was used to improve these problems. The combustion, performance and emission parameters were investigated in detail and it was found that the retardation of injection timing for biodiesel/diesel blends is one of suitable methods to enhance NOx and break specific fuel consumption without significant adverse effects on the other parameters.
