Abstract

In this study, effects on engine performance, combustion analysis and exhaust emissions of a ternary fuel blend (diesel-biodiesel-bioethanol) were investigated at different injection pressure in a diesel engine which has single cylinder and direct injection. According to test results, although biofuels decreased engine performance, this negative effect improved noteworthy owing to increased injection pressure. However, both biodiesel and bioethanol increased heat release rate at all conditions. The low cetane number of bioethanol increased ignition delay at all injection pressure. Ternary fuel decreased CO and smoke opacity emissions, although bioethanol and biodiesel increased HC and NOx emissions respectively. Besides, both biodiesel and bioethanol increased exhaust gas temperature at especially high injection pressure.
