A Comprehensive Review of Economic, Environmental and Social Sustainability Aspects in Design of Biomass-Based Fuel and Energy Supply Chains
AbstractThe number of papers published in the field of sustainable design and management of biomass based fuel/energy supply chains has risen considerably in recent years, in parallel with the academic and corporate interest in sustainable supply chains. The practical challenges related to economical, environmental and social sustainability considerations have to be overcome using proper criteria and methodologies to select the promising configuration options and assess the existing systems in terms of sustainability. Considering this fact, the aim of this study is to provide a comprehensive review of the papers in this field focusing on sustainability assessment as well as design and implementation of sustainable bioenergy/biofuel systems to reveal the body of knowledge in this field and highlight the future research directions to fulfil the gaps in current efforts
