AbstractMany techniques are utilized to optimize the parameters of the controllers of dynamical systems. One of these controllers is the proportional integral derivative (PID) controller. The Dc-motor is one of the dynamical systems that have many precise applications. These applications can be achieved by appropriate position and speed controlled systems. In this study the optimization of the gains of the PID controller and the optimization of DC-motor position control is studied. The study focuses on the comparison between the Genetic Algorithm (GA), and the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The PSO algorithm is modified to adapt the considered case study. Required responses performance specifications are introduced in order to be the inputs of both optimization methods. Actual responses performance specifications are obtained by both optimization techniques. The resultant specifications are compared to each other.
