The Theoretical Description of the use of fumigatin as an electrode modifier

Abstract

The use of chemically modified electrodes (CME) is a very important step in electroanalytical chemistry [1]. Compared to the bare electrodes, they have some advantages, like: - Rapidity; - Low cost; - Precisity; - Exactity; - Flexibility; - Versatility in use; - Affinity between the electrode modifier and the analyte. On the other hand, quinone-hydroquinonic redox system is one of the most abundant in nature and, at the same time, one of the most used as electrode modifiers in electroanalytical processes. For example, in [2], tetrachloro-o-quinone is used as a modifier for sulphite electrochemical determination. Yet, in [3], the quinone- hydroquinonic systems are present either in the electrode modifier or an analyte. It leeds to the possibility of use of natural hydroquinonic compounds, like fumigatin, natural colorant and antibiotic, as electrode modifiers. For now, no electroanalytical methods using fumigatin as electrode modifier have been developed. Nevertheless, from its chemical composition, it is possible to suggest that it would be possible, so, in this work, this possibility is theoretically analyzed.
