Microstructure Characterization of Nano Carbon Black Obtained by Combustion Method for Use in Concrete

Abstract

Recently, the use of carbon black in concrete has become widespread as it is in many composite materials. According to different authors' researches, the carbon black is often used to improve the durability and electrical conductivity of concrete. Carbon black is obtained either from natural sources or by pyrolysis method from waste materials such as waste tires. In this study, it is aimed to obtain carbon black by the combustion method using the self- fabricated device. SEM and EDS analyzes of the particulate material obtained by this method were performed. Lately, as the number of automobiles increases, the demand for tires also increases and at the same time the amount of waste tire in the surrounding area also increases. In recent years, extensive studies have been conducted on the use of these waste tires in the construction sector [1]. Waste tire wires[2] and carbon black [3] can be evaluated as two types of additive material using in concrete. Carbon black from waste tires are commonly obtained by pyrolysis method. Although the pyrolysis method is a very efficient and common method, it requires a multidisciplinary procedure which is costly and can not be practiced everywhere [4].
