Wear and friction behavior of AA7075 subjected to severe shot peening

Abstract

In this experimental study, wear and friction behaviors of AA7075 aluminum alloy were investigated after the application of severe shot peening as a mechanical surface treatment. Severe shot peening was applied at room temperature. In the severe shot peening process, compressed air with the ball-spraying system was used. The S230 steel balls were selected. The 200% saturation rate and the peening intensity value 20A Almen intensity were applied. After severe shot peening, wear tests were carried out on treated and untreated specimens with dry sliding conditions under room temperature. Two different loads (10N and 20N) were applied to the specimens for wear tests at a sliding speed V = 0,5 m/s. Finally, metallographic investigations were carried out.
