AbstractIn this study; performance of 0-D and 3-D software are investigated in an HCCI engine using toluene reference fuel (%79 toluene and %21 n-heptane). For 0-D simulations stochastic reactor model (SRM) has been used. SRM and CFD software are compared to each other for HCCI engine simulation by investigation in-cylinder pressure variations, heat release rate (HRR) and emissions. For toluene reference fuel, chemical kinetic mechanism containing 49 species and 62 reactions developed by Machrafi et al. is used during the simulations. It is observed that CFD simulations are given better results for capturing pressure and heat release rate compared to SRM while SRM could predict closer emission results to experiments then CFD. Computational cost is quite low and model setup time and effort is much lower with SRM than CFD.
