Comparative Finite Element Analysis and Optimization of Retainer Plate for Automotive Clutch Made Composite Materials and Conventional Steel

Alper Karaduman Murat Yazıcı

Abstract

Clutch system including Disc Assy, Flywheel, and Pressure Plate Cover Assy is inserted between engine and gearbox. It provides transmitting engine torque and engine speed in addition to its function of absorbing oscillations during transmitting process [1]. Nowadays, Passenger cars tend high engine speed and torque applications for the same size of clutches. Some of the functions of the Disc Assy are to transmit engine torque and to damp engine oscillations. One of Retainer plate, which is an essential element of Disc Assy, is riveted to cushion disc which has contact with facing. On the other hand, both of retainer plates are riveted together with stop pins. It creates an axial and radial volume of disc assy.
