The Effect of Ca Content on the Micro Arc Oxidation Coating on Titanium Alloy
AbstractTitanium and its alloys are suitable materials for biomedical applications because of their good ductility, formability, high modulus of elasticity and strength to weight ratio. However, the poor wear resistance and osteointegration properties, low hardness of titanium alloys is limited their applications. The coating of hydroxyapatite on the metal surface has been suggested as the most effective way to provide biocompatibility and osseo-conductivity. Therefore, it is useful to include calcium (Ca) and phosphor (P) ions into the coatings by using suitable electrolytes for Micro Arc Oxidation (MAO) processes. The precipitates of Ca and P ions in the coatings can provide an alternative approach for altering their surface bioactivity and improve the bone bonding ability of the implant surface. [1-3].
