The Relation between Tafsir and Kalam in Terms of al-Usul alThalatha
AbstractThis study deals with the relationship between the Islamic sciences of Tafsir and Kalam. All the sciences deriving from the Qur'an refer to the exegetical literature because tafsir is a science which interprets and explains the Qur'anic verses. However, the sciences have further developed the knowledge obtained from the Qur'anic commentaries within the framework of their own methodology and objectives. More matured after such cultivation, this knowledge returns to the commentaries. In this respect, it may be said that both sciences, tafsir and kalam have supported each other's development. The reflections of the theological debates are often encountered especially in the Qur'anic commentaries composed by the commentators with great knowledge in Kalam. The study aims to present findings on the dimensions of this relationship within the framework of the issues of istiwa, infallibility and intercesion among the topics of the divinity, the prophethood and the Hereafter, conceptualized as al-Usul al-Thalatha.
