The rapid changes and developments that have occurred with the science and technology age are increasing the importance of the IT departments in the university structure. IT departments are the units responsible for information technologies and information infrastructure in universities. The structures of the IT departments vary among universities. Internet infrastructure, software and hardware needs of the universities need to be best met by the IT departments that became important for the universities. For this purpose, the data processing departments of the presidency units; information, technological developments, constantly following innovations and fulfilling the requirements of the period they are in. In this study, the concept of data processing, why the data processing departments are needed, the tasks of the data processing departments and the administrative organizations of the data processing departments of the universities are examined. Data processing departments and sub-units are schematically revealed. As a result of this study, it has been observed that the IT departments are not established within the standard of university management and data processing departments but there is an administrative structure, system and technical infrastructure in all of these units in the universities. The study is important in terms of showing and comparing these different structures in universities. Bilim ve teknoloji çağı ile birlikte ortaya çıkan hızlı değişimler ve gelişmeler bilgi işlem daire başkanlığı birimlerinin üniversite yapısı içerisindeki önemini artırmaktadır. Bilgi işlem daire başkanlıkları üniversitelerde bilişim teknolojileri ile bilişim alt yapısından sorumlu olan birimlerdir. Bilgi işlem daire başkanlık birimlerinin üniversiteler içerisindeki yapılanmaları her üniversiteye göre farklılık göstermektedir. Üniversiteler için önemli hale gelen bilgi işlem daire başkanlığı birimleri tarafından üniversitelerin internet alt yapısı, yazılım ve donanım ihtiyaçları en iyi şekilde karşılanması gerekmektedir. Bu amaçla bilgi işlem daire başkanlık birimlerinin; bilgiyi, teknolojik gelişmeleri, yenilikleri sürekli takip eden ve bulunduğu dönemin gerekliliklerini yerine getirip getirmediği merak konusu olmaktadır. Bu çalışmada bilgi işlem kavramı, bilgi işlem departmanlarına neden ihtiyaç duyulduğu, bilgi işlem daire başkanlıklarının görevi ve üniversitelerin bilgi işlem daire başkanlıklarının idari teşkilat yapıları incelenmiştir. Bilgi işlem daire başkanlıkları ve alt birimleri şematik olarak ortaya çıkarılmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın sonucunda bilgi işlem daire başkanlık alt birimlerinin üniversite yönetimi ve bilgi işlem daire başkanlıklarının üstünlüğünde belli bir standart dahilinde kurulmadığı fakat üniversitelerdeki bu birimlerin hepsinde bir idari yapının, sistem ve teknik altyapının olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Çalışma üniversitelerdeki bu farklı yapıların gösterilmesi ve karşılaştırılması açısından önemlidir.
